trauma or trust....

At this time in history we are facing traumatic and unexpected events almost daily. There is so much confusion and uncertainty with the state our world is in, and it would seem everyone has a different 'truth,' a different protocol, which we should follow if we wish to survive. Masses of people are determined to rewrite history, or obliterate historical event reminders so that no one is able to learn from the mistakes of the past to focus on a better future. All of this can leave you feeling panicked, claustrophobic, and alone as David wrote about in Psalms 38:21 and 119:8. But, even if you don't see any apparent way out, God does! “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” 1 Corinthians 10:13. Temptation here, G3986 in Strong's Hebrew and Greek dictionaries can, by implication, mean adversity. God will show His children the way! He always keeps His promises!

A great example is the patriarch Job. He endured the sudden death of every one of his children and the swift loss of nearly all his earthly possessions. His immediate reaction shows the discouragement and despair he was feeling. He “tore his robe, and shaved his head' in display of mourning (Job 1:20). He did not give up though, as his profound love and deep respect for His awesome Creator kept him going. Read and study the book of Job and see that God does not always respond immediately in the way we might ask for Him to resolve the troubles we are experiencing. Sometimes He decides to have us wait patiently to strengthen our faith and build our character (Psalm 37:7-9; Jeremiah 17:10; Romans 5:3-4) as He is always working on our behalf to develop in us the character of His sons and daughters who then learn to immediately turn to Him, completely trusting Him to show us the way.

Deuteronomy 31:8 is a wonderful scripture of promise, assuring us that we are not alone, and God will never let His children down. “And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.” When we make the purposeful choice to not sink into self pity and not to allow despair to immobilize us, but instead to call on our Heavenly Father who always keeps His promises (Hebrews 4:16), then we are able to courageously face what is in front of us, rejoicing in the victory Jesus has already won over that enemy, Satan.
