Learn to Live!

Peter tells us that “By His divine power, Jesus has given His followers all that we need to live a godly life. (2 Peter 1:3-). We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of His glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature and escape the world's corruption caused by human desires.”

Now for our end of the deal; our responsibility! Verse 5: “In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God's promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins. So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away. Then God will give you a grand entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” And never forget Philippians 2:13 “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.” You are not on your own if you belong to Christ.

Sadly, so many people today have no qualms about mocking and rejecting these biblical instructions. There are even some who claim that Christian values are discriminatory and hateful and should be replaced by accepting attitudes toward what the Bible calls sin. But, the Bible warns us, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7). These are not empty words. One of the most ancient and sobering lessons of history is recorded in the book of Genesis when the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were totally destroyed by fire and brimstone during the days of Abraham, around 2,000 BC. They were very prosperous cities in a well-watered plain near the Dead Sea (Genesis 13:10), but today the entire area around the Dead Sea is a dry, barren, and desolate wasteland and has been ever since the destruction of these two cities. All because the men of Sodom were “exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord” (Genesis 13:13) and that their sin was “very grave” (Genesis 18:20). Their perverted behavior was more important to them than abundant living in the wonderful promises of God. They did not care what the consequences of taking pleasure in sin was, they just wanted the pleasure. Nor did they care how it hurt anyone else. They were totally self-absorbed as those individuals are today who persist in living in sin and actively recruit others to join them. It is clear that the leaders of our country back them up and support their way of life with no concern of the ways they are harming themselves and no warning to others of the opportunistic diseases and infections, greater risk for various types of cancer, serious depression, increased risk of suicide and lifespan shortening of 10-20 years earlier than the average person. They are so intimidated by the threat of legal action and intimidation due to the widespread propaganda against saying anything negative about this lifestyle, that in their weakness they go about supporting sin, no matter the consequences to those who may engage in it because it is supported by their leaders. As a result they are bringing destruction on our country.

There is a saying that if you do not learn and understand history, you are doomed to repeat it. Living according to God's instructions in the Bible has both historical and present age consequences; blessings and joyful living. Living according to Satan's evil ways has historical and present age consequences too; curses and death. Will you learn from the past mistakes in history and avoid the consequences that are coming in the days ahead? By choosing to live for God, you can look forward to the return of Jesus Christ with joy! Choose life that you may live!
