Be careful what you ask for...you just might get it - and all that goes with it!

We as Christians have God's holy spirit to help us ask for the right things. What are the right things? To know those things which will please the Lord, you first have to really know Him. Without fail, when I take time to read and really study and meditate on His word, I am able to see another glimpse of who He really is, what the right things are to ask for, in line with His character and will. He is so much more and so much deeper than what we can see. “For your thoughts are not my thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”(Isaiah 55:8-9 KJV). Yes, His loving kindness is better than life, but that is not the end of the story. God is a just God, and throughout the Bible are examples of the consequences of sin, breaking with the way of life God has laid out for us and making self more important than He is in our heart.

Our nation, once under God, has done just that. The consequences are, and will become even more, terrifying. However, if you are living for Him, living in the way He lays out for us to live, He will be there to help you through this terrible time until you are able to be with Him for eternity. Make no mistake, only His ways are acceptable to Him. It is a difference of “Well done, thou good and faithful servant...” and “Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, 'Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name. But I will reply, 'I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God's laws." (Matthew 7: 21-23 NLT). We need to obey. To be able to obey Him, we need to know His laws, and obedience to Him must to be all-important to us. Even then, it is sometimes difficult to know what His will is and how to pray for help and guidance.

The more I read and study the entire Bible, the more I understand about God and His ways. When I do not know what to ask for, His spirit helps me. “And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don't know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will.” (Romans 8:26-27 NLT). The Father helps us because He knows us! Christ's Spirit pleads for those who truly live for Him in harmony with God's will! What a Savior! What a God!

So take heart, align your will with Christ's. Ask for strength and wisdom to know the will of God, then do it! When you fall, repent, learn from your error, and He will help you to make progress. He is there to help you!
