In Matthew 24:42, Jesus gives us a direct command and the reason for it. It says that we are to watch. “So you, too, must keep watch! For you don't know what day your Lord is coming” (NLT). Watch here means to keep awake, be vigilant! Luke 21:34 says “Watch out! Don't let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don't let that day catch you unaware...” Make sure you don't allow yourself to become so absorbed and exhausted by dealing with all the day-to-day obligations, concerns, and challenges that you lose track of time, doze off, and become oblivious to God! We've got to keep tracking 24/7. Romans 13:11-14 “This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes and put on shining armor of right living. Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don't participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy. Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don't let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires” (NLT).
So many brush these verses off, thinking that there is still tons of time. The fact is that the world has never been in the state it is in now. The nations that God has so blessed have now turned their backs on Him, condoning and participating in the evil acts of long forgotten pagan ways. The murdering of their own defenseless babies, either before birth or after birth, with the making of laws that ensure an easy pathway to living an evil life and practicing the things against nature that God hates! He has never, in all history documented throughout the Bible, condoned or accepted evil but has allowed those who insist on living a culture of evil to be consumed with it. Be destroyed by it. He has promised that He will put an end to it and He always keeps His promises.
The Bible tells us that time is running out. The night is about at its darkest and almost over and dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing in you, in those around you! Make sure you are where you want to be when the dawn breaks.
